Chapter · 02

The Manifesto.

Six principles that follow from one thesis. Each is a discipline the studio measures itself against.
The Thesis
Space is the design.
Read in sequence, the six principles trace a deliberate arc: from the person who will use the room, through the fabric, through the form, through the boundary, through the animating force, into the long relationship over time.

A home that
takes care of you.

A home should take care of the people inside it. It should breathe when the air goes stale, soften its light as the evening comes, quiet itself when the house is sleeping, and use only the energy it needs.

The light changes with the hour — low and golden in the evening, clear and open in the morning. The air is fresh without windows being opened. The temperature follows the time of day and the people in the room. The water is clean. The energy the house uses is the energy the house needs.

The systems that do this work live inside the architecture, decided in the brief, specified with the materials, built into the walls. You do not see them. You feel the home they make.

A Cirkel home is a home that looks after itself, and after you.
